74Weld Portals on 2nd Gen Tundra with FOX Performance Elite Suspension, LSK Arms, and 40X13.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS & More!
Eric’s 2021 Tundra TRD Pro was built around a simple objective. More clearance, more capability, stronger suspension components, and a tire package that matches the newly equipped portal platform. This was an absolute unit of a build and actually the 1st Tundra that has ever been outfitted with a set of 74W portals.
This build got a full portal axle conversion, a complete suspension system with upgraded control arms and double shear support, and a wheel and tire package built around a 40″ tire.
This build is an absolute UNIT!!
74Weld Legacy Toyota Portal Axles

The foundation of the build is the 74Weld Full Size Legacy Toyota portal axle system.
Portals increase clearance at the axle, reduce stress at the wheel bearings compared to large tire setups on stock knuckles, and improve torque at the tire with the 22% gear reduction.
On a full-size truck like the Tundra, portals also help keep driveline angles and underbody clearance where they need to be when stepping up to a 40″ tire.
Suspension Mods

Suspension is built around FOX Performance Elite Series 2.5 coilovers with reservoirs up front and FOX Performance Elite Series 2.5 reservoir rear shocks with adjusters. This setup is designed to handle added tire weight, the portals, and technical off-road performance while keeping damping control consistent across go-fast events.
To support the front end, the truck got LSK upper control arms and LSK lower control arms, plus Dirt King upper arm double shear kit.
Out back, the truck got Dobinson rear leaf springs rated for added load, along with the matching Dobinson bushing kit. For improved clearance and protection around the rear axle and leaf hardware, an Archive Garage Stealth HD U-bolt flip kit was installed, optioned with Archive standard speed bumps. This keeps the u bolt hardware tucked up and helps reduce snag points.
Wheels and Tires

Our wheel and tire shop set up this truck with a set of Method MR703 wheels in matte black, size 17X8.5 with 0mm offset, paired with Gorilla lug nuts. Tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS in 40X13.50R17LT. This tire choice is built for traction and sidewall strength, and it matches the portal conversion objective for clearance and footprint. This setup looks absolutely amazing!!
Once mounted and balanced, we checked for clearance, steering sweep, and suspension cycle to make sure the truck clears correctly at full lock and through up travel.
Build Direction

This is a full-size Toyota build that focuses on strength first.
Portals, reinforced arms, double shear support, reservoir shocks, upgraded rear leafs, and a 40″ tire package – just an insane setup on a 2nd Gen Tundra.
