2026 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter on 74Weld Portals, PowerBrakes & 37″ M/Ts
The 2026 Tacoma Trailhunter is already one of the most capable factory off-road trucks Toyota has ever built.
Tom brought his in and took it a step further with a vision for one of the most OEM++ builds you can spec. He decided to go with 74Weld portal axles, a PowerBrake 6-piston big brake kit, full 74Weld geometry correction front and rear (UCAs and rear links), and a set of Toyo Open Country R/T Pros to wrap it all up.
What an epic setup!!

74Weld Portal Axles

We installed a full 74Weld portal axle kit on this 2026 Trailhunter.
Portals add about 4″ of usable ground clearance through the axle itself, lift the differential out of harm’s way, and open the door for larger tires without the trimming headaches. The fewer cuts you have to make on a brand new truck, the better.
The Trailhunter is already a dialed platform from the factory; portals take it to a totally different level. If you’re looking for a portal axle install shop in Colorado, Mountain Yotas leads the state in portal installs on Toyota and Lexus platforms. We’re the trusted 74W Portal dealer/installer when it comes to anything Toyota/Lexus. Whether it’s service or maintenance, give us a call. We can help.
PowerBrake X-Line Big Brake Kit

We installed the PowerBrake X-Line 6-piston billet big brake kit with portal adapter in red.
Portals add unsprung weight, and a factory brake setup will work, but not quite as well as the PowerBrake BBK. The PowerBrake kit brings the stopping power to another level.
74Weld Billet Front Upper Control Arms

We installed 74Weld billet front upper control arms to correct the suspension geometry that comes with a portal lift.
Factory UCAs run out of travel fast at this ride height; the 74Weld billet arms fix that, preserve full suspension travel, and dial in caster for a truck that actually drives right on and off the pavement.
74Weld Billet Rear Control Arms + Track Bar

We installed a complete 74Weld billet rear geometry kit; rear lower links, rear upper links, and a rear track bar, all in black.
On a portal-lifted Tacoma, full rear geometry correction is just as important as the front. The 74Weld rear kit keeps everything aligned, maintains proper axle positioning, and gives the suspension the range of motion it needs to perform the way it should on uneven terrain.
Wheels & Tires

We mounted five Toyo Open Country R/T Pro tires in 37×12.5R18, mounted and balanced in house.
The R/T Pro splits the difference between an all-terrain and a mud terrain; quiet enough for daily driving, aggressive enough for serious trail use. A great match for the Trailhunter’s intended use case and a perfect fit on the portal-lifted stance. Just such a dialed OEM++ build here on the factory TH wheels.
500mi Retorque Inspection + Portal Oil Change

Tom brought the Trailhunter back in for the complimentary 500-mile retorque inspection and 74W portal gear oil change.
We include this with every portal install at Mountain Yotas. Portal axles require a break-in period, and verifying torque specs and refreshing the gear oil at 500 miles is part of doing the job right the first time. While other shops will put that work on you, we handle everything for you on the initial break-in process.
