74Weld Portals, Billet Links, ADD Front Bumper, Warn Winch, Hybrid Power Relocation, and 37 Inch Toyos

John brought in his 2025 Tacoma Trailhunter for a full portal conversion and a handful of supporting mods. The goal was simple. Build a Trailhunter that can live on 37s with portals, keep the hybrid system happy, and stay reliable. This truck now has 74Weld portals, billet rear links, a strong front bumper and winch setup, hybrid specific power relocation, and a proper wheel and tire package with alignment.

74Weld Portal Axles

The heart of the build is the 74Weld portal axle system.

This converts the Trailhunter into a true portal truck with increased ground clearance at the axle, reduced load at the wheel bearings, and more torque at the tire. The kit is purpose-built for the Tacoma platform and pairs well with the Trailhunter suspension and geometry.

After the initial miles, the truck was back in for a 500 mile portal service using Maxima Pro Gear 75W90 oil. Two quarts of gear oil were used across the portals to keep everything fresh after break in. This is the first important service interval for a new portal setup.

74Weld Billet Rear Control Arms

To match the portal system, we installed 74Weld billet rear lower and upper links. These aluminum arms are built for strength and precision. The billet links keep the axle located correctly and reduce deflection when the truck is loaded and off road.

Addictive Desert Designs Front Bumper and Skid

Up front the truck runs an Addictive Desert Designs Stealth center mount winch bumper with a matching skid plate.

This bumper improves approach angle over stock, gives a strong winch mount, and ties into the frame properly.

The ADD skid protects the lower front section and covers vulnerable components that sit ahead of the cross member on the Trailhunter platform.

Warn Winch and Recovery Hardware

For recovery duty the truck uses a Warn VR Evo 10 S winch with synthetic line. At the fairlead we added a Factor 55 Flatlink in black for a clean, closed system recovery point. This setup gives the truck a reliable front recovery system that pairs well with the portal and tire combo.

Rigid SR Lighting and Switching

A Rigid SR Series Pro 20-inch light bar with spot and drive combo pattern is mounted into the ADD bumper. This bar provides both distance lighting and usable foreground fill for night driving and trail work. The bumper light bar is wired to AUX 1, so it integrates with the factory-style auxiliary switch system and keeps the interior clean.

Hybrid Power Relocation

Because this is a hybrid Trailhunter, we installed the Mountain Yotas Hybrid Power Relocation kit.

This kit is designed for Tacoma and Tundra hybrid platforms and moves key components out of the way for portals, front bumper work, and future modifications.

It organizes hybrid-related wiring and power distribution so everything is serviceable and protected with the new hardware in place.

Wheels, Tires, and Alignment

The truck now rolls on Method 703 wheels in 17X8.5 finished in Method Bronze.

Hardware is handled by Gorilla ET black lug nuts.

Tires are Toyo Open Country RT Pro in 37X12.5R17 load range E. This combination works well with portals, gives strong sidewall support, and keeps bead seat security in check when aired down.

After mounting and balancing five tires, the truck received a full alignment. With portals, billet links, and larger tires, alignment is critical to keep on road manners and tire wear where they should be.

Final Setup

John’s Trailhunter is now a proper portal Tacoma with the right supporting parts.

74Weld portals, billet rear links, ADD front bumper and skid, Warn winch, Factor 55 recovery hardware, Rigid lighting, hybrid power relocation, Method wheels, and Toyo RT Pro 37s.

It clears, it drives correctly, and it is set up for real use off-road with a clean factory plus feel.

If you are planning a Trailhunter build for 37s, portals, hybrid specific routing, or front bumper and winch work, Mountain Yotas can help you map out a complete package from day one through first service.
