Toyota-Based Mini Buggy Rock Crawler Build: JHF Goat Built Chassis, Toyota 22R Propane, Z Fab H1 portals axles, and more
This Toyota-based mini buggy came through the shop from our friends at Stash Fabrication.
While we’re known for Toyota and Lexus builds off-road/overland builds, we are fully equipped to service buggies, tube chassis rigs, and custom 4×4 fabrication projects.

Chassis and Drivetrain
The chassis is a JHF Goat Built kids platform measuring 42″ wide, built to keep the center of gravity low while maintaining stability on steep terrain.
Power comes from a Toyota 22R engine running propane, paired to an AW4 automatic transmission and a 4:1 Dana 300 transfer case.
This drivetrain combo is simple, reliable, and well-suited for incredible low-speed crawling.
Axles, Steering, and Suspension
Axles are Z Fab H1 portals with two gear reductions, paired with 8″ Toyota differentials running spools flipped upside down.
The buggy is set up with 45 degrees of steering, both front and rear, using a Radial Dynamics steering kit with PSC hydraulic rams.
Suspension is handled by 14″x2″ Radflo air shocks, giving the chassis flexibility and control across uneven terrain.
The buggy runs 42″ sticky KR2 tires mounted on 20″ Method beadlock wheels. This setup provides a large contact patch, strong sidewall support, and bead retention at low pressures. Branik 300M axle shafts tie the drivetrain together and handle the load created by portals, big tires, and hydraulic steering.
Body and Overall Setup
Body work features a Twisted Customs FJ40 hood and grille, providing the buggy with a classic Toyota appearance while maintaining a low weight. The overall build is focused on clearance, steering angle, and simplicity, making it effective on technical rock trails.
