2024 Tacoma Build – OME MT64 Suspension & RCI Sliders Installed in Denver, CO

Celestial Silver Metallic 4th Gen Tacoma Build

This 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 came through Mountain Yotas in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, for a complete suspension upgrade and rock slider install.

The goal for this build was to improve ride quality, increase capability, and properly support added weight from an existing RSI SmartCap, along with future gear and accessories.

We installed a full Old Man Emu MT64 suspension system paired with upgraded upper control arms, rear springs, and bump stops.

To round things out, we added a set of RCI rock sliders for protection around Colorado off-road trails.

Old Man Emu MT64 Suspension System

The foundation of this build is the Old Man Emu MT64 suspension package, designed specifically for the 2024+ Tacoma platform.

Up front, MT64 coilovers were set to approximately 3″ of lift, improving ground clearance while maintaining proper suspension geometry and ride quality.

In the rear, matching MT64 shocks were paired with 440 lb rated OME coil springs to properly support the added weight of the RSI SmartCap.

This setup helps prevent rear sag while keeping the truck level and composed under load.

OME Upper Control Arms

To support the increased ride height and maintain alignment specs, we installed Old Man Emu upper control arms.

These arms allow for proper camber and caster correction, which is critical on the 4th Gen Tacoma when running additional lift.

With the correct geometry in place, the truck drives straight, tracks well on the highway, and keeps suspension travel working as intended without binding or premature wear.

Supporting the RSI SmartCap Weight

Supporting the RSI SmartCap Weight

This Tacoma already had an RSI SmartCap installed, which adds consistent weight over the rear of the truck.

Factory springs are not designed to handle that kind of constant load, which can lead to sagging and reduced suspension performance over time.

By stepping up to a properly rated rear spring, we’re able to maintain ride height, improve load handling, and keep the truck stable both on road and off-road.

This is a key upgrade for anyone running a topper, camper shell, or planning to add additional rear weight.

Rear Load Support & Bump Stops

Rear Load Support & Bump Stops

The rear suspension was set up with 440 lb coil springs to handle constant weight from the SmartCap and additional gear.

This provides a solid balance between daily driving comfort and the ability to carry load without excessive squat.

We also added Timbren rear bump stops to help manage compression under load.

These provide additional support during hard hits and help control suspension movement when the truck is fully loaded.

RCI Rock Sliders for Protection

RCI Rock Sliders for Protection

To protect the Tacoma on tighter Colorado trails, we installed a set of RCI rock sliders with top tread plates and a 20 degree angle. These sliders provide both body protection and a usable step for daily driving.

Mounted directly to the frame, they are built to take hits from rocks and obstacles while keeping the cab and rocker panels protected.

Alignment & Final Setup

Alignment & Final Setup

After installation, the truck received a full alignment to bring everything back into spec. Proper alignment is critical after any suspension upgrade to ensure tire wear, handling, and overall drivability are dialed in.

This Tacoma left the shop with improved ride quality, better load support for the SmartCap, and the protection needed to confidently explore Colorado terrain.
